Stewarton Golf Club was founded in 1911, originally as a 9 hole course before closing at the time of WW1.
The Club was revived in 1920 at Gameshill, Robertland in 1920, with the original course being extended to 18 holes in 1925 but was eventually reduced back to 9 holes prior to WW2.
The formal opening of the Gameshill course took place on Saturday 15th May 1920 by President Thomas H Gallan, who expressed his deep pleasure that Stewarton again had a golf course. Grateful thanks were passed on to James Cunningham for giving up the land.
The Club became more prosperous during the 20s and had over 200 members, playing over holes with such names as Blaw Wearie, Village, Dug's Leg, The Kilns, Draffen, Punch Bowl, Tipperary.
From the very beginning the Club seemed to have been plagued with ground leasing troubles and due to squabbles with various landowners, certain holes and eventually the whole course had to be shifted.
By the 30s, the course was again reduced to 9 holes and moved to between the Cutstraw and Fenwick roads.
Eventually the golf course closed and the Club moved to the new Annanhill course in Kilmarnock in 1954, playing there for many years before recently moving to and playing over the Caprington Community Golf Club Course. >
